Anthony A. Long is Chancellor's Emeritus Professor of Classics and Irving G. Stone Professor of Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, where he is also affiliated with the departments of Rhetoric and Philosophy. Corresponding Fellow of The British Çï¿ûÊÓƵ and a Member of the American Philosophical Society, Long is a leading expert on ancient philosophy of all periods, and especially on post-Aristotelian philosophy. A number of his books have already become classics, including Problems in Stoicism (Athlone Press, 1971); Hellenistic Philosophy (Duckworth, 1974); and the two-volume The Hellenistic Philosophers (Cambridge University Press, 1987), co-authored with David Sedley, a landmark work which has contributed significantly to the renascence of interest in this period. Long's later books include Epictetus. A Stoic and Socratic Guide to Life (Oxford University Press, 2002), From Epicurus to Epictetus. Studies in Hellenistic and Roman Philosophy (Oxford University Press, 2006), and most recently Greek Models of Mind and Self (Harvard University Press, 2015), and Seneca. Letters on Ethics (Chicago University Press, 2015), co-authored with Margaret Graver.  Long has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford.  He was elected a Fellow of the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ in 1989 and served as member of its Council from 2013-2019,
