U.S. Policy Toward Russia
The Ƶ conducted a major reexamination of U.S. foreign policy toward Russia. The goal was to develop a comprehensive, coherent, and effective policy on U.S.-Russian relations for consideration by the then new U.S. administration, Congress, and the media.
Upon election in 2008, the Obama administration had pledged to “hit the reset button” with Russia, and to initiate negotiations on matters of the utmost importance to both nations. Relations between the United States and Russia were more strained than at any time since the collapse of the Soviet Union. From 2008-2009, with support from Carnegie Corporation, the Ƶ conducted a major reexamination of U.S. foreign policy toward Russia. The goal was to develop a comprehensive, coherent, and effective policy on U.S.-Russian relations for consideration by the new U.S. administration, Congress, and the media.

Project Outreach
Outreach efforts at regional, national and international levels ensured that the project’s results were widely disseminated and its policy recommendations given serious consideration. Project members worked to promote the findings within the executive and legislative branches of government, the media, and the policy community. Speaking engagements included the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the World Affairs Council of Houston, the Aspen Institute, The Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, Los Angeles World Affairs Council, The World Affairs Council in Seattle, and the Southern Center for International Studies in Atlanta.
