Professor T.J. Jackson Lears is the Board of Governors Professor of History at Rutgers University. He is a regular writer on historical and cultural matters for The Nation and The New Republic and editor of Raritan: A Quarterly Review, and has published many books including No Place of Grace (1981) (National Book Critics Circle Award nomination), Fables of Abundance (1994) (Los Angeles Times Book Award in History and NJ-NEH Book Award), Something for Nothing (2004) and Rebirth of a Nation (2009). Professor Lears' research interests include U.S. cultural and intellectual history, comparative religious history, literature and the visual arts, and folklore and folk beliefs. He has had fellowships with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Winterthur Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Shelby Cullom Davis Center at Princeton University.
