Professor of Psychology, Harvard University. She has conducted fundamental research on children's developing conceptions of persons, animals, living things, objects, matter, and number, as well as research on children's developing recognition of faces. Her writings on conceptual change forge central links between cognitive science and education, psychology and philosophy, and studies of mind and brain. Books include Conceptual Change in Childhood, Constraints on Conceptual Development:  A Case Study of the Acquisition of Folkbiological and Folksociological Knowledge in Madagascar, and The Origin of Concepts.
