Rubén Gallo is a distinguished scholar of Latin American art and literature, with a strong, proven special interest in Mexico, modernism and psychoanalysis.  In recent years he has added Cuban literature and culture to his fields of expertise. One of his later books is called A Conversation (2017), and refers to a dialogue with the novelist Mario Vargas Llosa; and indeed most of Gallo's work could be thought of as the record or creation of truly extraordinary conversations: between Proust and Venezuela, for example, between Mexico and Freud, and between Princeton and a very large intellectual world.
