I am actively engaged in teaching and research at UC Berkeley.  My research area is experimental condensed matter physics with a focus on quantum materials such as the Fe pnictide and chalcogenide superconductors.  I am also engaged in public policy issues including strategies for guaranteeing the continuing excellence and accessibility of our great public research universities as well as the basic research enterprise itself.  I have an active interest in issues of diversity including especially the challenges faced by undocumented students.  I continue to work on strategies to increase the representation of women and minorities in STEM.
