Ralph Gomory is well-known both for his own research and for his technical leadership. For twenty years he was responsible for IBM’s Research Division, and then for 18 years was the President of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In addition to mathematics, he has written extensively about globalization, trade, research, and technology, and has testified to Congress on these topics. His achievements have been recognized by the National Medal of Science and a long list of other awards and honorary degrees.
