Peter A. Gourevitch is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego, where he was the founding Dean (1986-96) of the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. Gourevitch is well known within the International Relations community for having first coined the term "second image reversed" in his 1978 re-examination of Kenneth Waltz's three images theory. He is an expert on international relations and comparative politics. He specializes in political economy with a particular focus on international trade and economic globalization, trade disputes, regulatory system, and corporate governance. He is currently studying corporate governance systems in a globalizing world economy, comparing differences in the way countries structure companies and their relationship to shareholders. With David Lake, he co-edited the journal International Organization from 1996 to 2001.Gourevitch is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and chaired its selection committee for International Affairs Fellowships from 1991 to 2009. He served as President of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs in 1991, and was a member of the Administrative Council and Executive Committee of the American Political Science Association in 1990-92.
