Peng Chen is Peter J. W. Debye Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell University. He is also the Associate Editor of Chemical & Biomedical Imaging, ACS.

Chen has pioneered the application and development of single-molecule approaches to study heterogeneous/homogeneous catalysis. He imaged catalysis, electrocatalysis, and photo(electro)catalysis on single catalyst particles, discovering new reactivity patterns and cooperative communications. He developed new methods for super-resolution imaging of nonfluorescent reactions, tracking single-polymer growth during living polymerization catalysis, and sequencing synthetic polymers. In parallel to his work in catalysis, he also pioneered the study of bacterial metal regulation and efflux at the single-molecule/single-cell level, as a new direction in bioinorganic chemistry.
