Paul Reiber

Vermont Supreme Court

Paul L. Reiber of Chittenden, Vermont was appointed to the Vermont Supreme Court by Governor James Douglas as an Associate Justice in October 2003 and as Chief Justice December 2004.  He practiced in Rutland, Vermont at Reiber, Kenlan, Schwiebert, Hall & Facey, and P.C. at the time of his appointment to the Supreme Court. He worked for more than 25 years in private practice, served in various civic and bar-related positions; was elected by the bar for three successive terms to the Vermont Judicial Nominating Board; was appointed by the Supreme Court to the Professional Responsibility Board; and served as Chair of the Vermont Commission on Judicial Operation, which resulted in historic legislation that unified the state court system. He is now Chair of the Chief Justice Task Force for Children, the Vermont Commission on Well-Being of the Legal Profession, and the Vermont Judicial Commission on Family Treatment Courts. Each group is dedicated to improving the delivery of judicial services through inter-branch, multi-disciplinary collaboration. He is President-Elect of the Conference of Chief Justices, a member of the Board of the National Center for State Courts and a member of the National Judicial Opioid Initiative. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the American Law Institute and active in his local chapter of the American Inns of Court.
