Michael J. Klarman is the Kirkland and Ellis Professor at Harvard Law School. He is an American legal historian and constitutional law scholar who specializes in the constitutional history of race. After finishing law school at Stanford, Klarman clerked for the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. His first book,  From Jim Crow to Civil Rights: The Supreme Court and the Struggle for Racial Equality (2004) received the Bancroft Prize in History.
