Marcelo Suárez-Orozco has served since 2020 as Chancellor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He was previously Dean and professor of the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies. His research is on conceptual and empirical problems in the areas of cultural psychology and psychological anthropology with a focus on the study of mass migration, globalization, and education. As a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, Suárez-Orozco worked on issues of education, globalization, and immigration. He is the co-founder and co-director of the Harvard Immigration Projects and Immigration Studies at NYU. He is also the founder and co-director of the Institute for Immigrant Children, Youth, and Families, UCLA. His recent publications include Learning a New Land: Immigrant Students in American Society, Writing Immigration: Scholars and Journalists in Dialogue, Latinos:Remaking America and Humanitarianism and Mass Migration: Facing the World Crisis. In 2012, he was appointed special adviser for education, peace and justice to the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. In 2006, he received the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle and in 2004, was elected to the National Ƶ of Education. In January 2018, His Holiness Pope Francis appointed him to the Pontifical Ƶ of Social Sciences. He was elected a Fellow of the American Ƶ of Arts and Science in 2014.
