Lynn Chang has a distinguished performing career, from top prizewinner at the 1974 International Paganini Competition to soloist at the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. A professor for 35 years at Boston Conservatory, Boston University, and an Affiliated Artist at MIT, he is a remarkable teacher and mentor, with the result that his students have thrived—many with exceptional careers; others, from Ecuador and Lithuania, starting chamber music festivals in their countries. His multidisciplinary interests are reflected in young musicians, physicists, and environmentalists he has mentored to pursue unique projects and new forms of thinking. Chang was vice-chair of Harvard’s Board of Overseers, chaired Harvard’s Committee on Arts and Humanities, and directs the Hemenway Strings.
