Pioneer, integrating engineering education and community service. Co-founded and previously directed the Engineering Projects in Community Service program, which pairs high school and college teams with nonprofits, bringing such innovations as green-building techniques and adaptive technologies to organizations across the country. President, Institute of Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and IEEE Fellow and spokesperson on technology, education, and innovation. Has participated in national and global forums, including Fortune's Brainstorm Tech conference. Authored more than 160 journal and conference papers and co-edited two books. Member, National Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Engineering (NAE). Recipient, many awards such as IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr Education Medal, IEEE Education Society's Harriet B. Rigas Outstanding Woman Engineering Educator Award; Anita Borg Institute's Women of Vision Award for Social Impact; the Simon Bolivar medal from the National Ministry of Education of Colombia, and NAE's Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education.
