An advocate of subjective Bayesian methods whose accomplishments span the foundations of statistics, the elicitation of prior information, and diverse areas of application including sampling for census-taking, developmental and social psychology, econometrics, ethics, and the law. Well known for applying statistics to decision making. Served as Editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association (1983-1985).
