John Mark Hansen is the Charles L. Hutchinson Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Political Science and the College of the University of Chicago, where he joined the faculty in 1986. He has served as the Dean of the Social Sciences and Chairman of the Department of Political Science, Associate Provost for Education and Research, and Senior Advisor to the University President. His scholarship addresses legislative politics, interest group politics, citizen activism, public opinion, and elections. He is the author of two books, Gaining access: Congress and the Farm Lobby, 1919–1981 (1991), and Mobilization, Participation, and Democracy in America (1993, with Steven Rosenstone). Dr. Hansen was elected to the American Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Arts and Sciences in 2003. He currently serves as a member of the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ’s Board of Directors, the Trust, the Institutional Policy Committee, the Chicago Local Program Committee, and the Making Justice Accessible Project. He previously served on the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ Council and as Chair of the Committee on Studies and Publications.
