Jerome Kagan
Jerome Kagan chairs the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ's Committee on Publications and serves as a member of the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ's Council. He is one of the key pioneers of developmental psychology and is the Daniel and Amy Starch research professor of psychology emeritus, at Harvard University, where he was Co-director of the Mind/Brain Behavior Interfaculty Initiative. His research on the cognitive and emotional development of a child during the first decade of life focuses on the origins of temperament. He has tracked the development of inhibited and uninhibited children from infancy to adolescence. Author of Growth of the Child (1978), The Nature of the Child (1982), and Galen's Prophecy: Temperament in Human Nature (1997), his recent books include The Three Cultures: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and the Humanities in the 21st Century (2009), What is Emotion? (2007) , The Long Shadow of Temperament (2004, with Nancy Snidman), The Human Spark (2013) and On Being Human (2016) . He was elected to the American Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Arts and Sciences in 1968.
