Jennifer L. Derr is Associate Professor of History and Founding Director of the Center for the Middle East and North Africa at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is the author of The Lived Nile: Environment, Disease, and Material Colonial Economy in Egypt (2019) and has published in such journals as International Journal of Middle East Studies and Molecular and Cellular Biology.
