Fallows is among the most accomplished public policy journalists in U.S. annals. He has run two major magazines, the Washington Monthly and US News & World Report, while being a four-decade contributor, as writer and editor, to the world's leading policy-journalism magazine, The Atlantic. Fallows's books National Defense (1982), More Like Us (1989), Breaking the News (1996) and Blind into Baghdad (2006) number among the most influential examples of serious writing of the past half-century. Fallows has produced several dozen cover stories for The Atlantic, hundreds of shorter pieces and some 400 commentaries for NPR. He worked in the White House as a presidential speechwriter for the Carter administration.
