Educated as a chemist, Holden Thorp, PhD, has served in three academic/higher education leadership roles: Chancellor of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Washington University in St. Louis; and Editor in Chief of Science. In each of these roles he has contributed significantly to the institution’s progress and to important national science and higher education issues. Thorp has been especially influential in advancing diversity and inclusion in higher education and in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. As Editor-in-Chief of Science, he has advanced the importance of science for the nation’s well-being.
