Harriet Miers

Harriet Miers is a partner at the law firm of Locke Lord and formerly served in the administration of President George W. Bush as staff secretary, deputy chief of staff, and counsel to the president. She began her career as a law clerk for Judge Joe E. Estes of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. She then went on to become the first woman hired at the law firm of Locke Purnell Laney & Neely. She has been the first woman to hold many other posts as well, including firm president of Locke Purnell Rain Harrell, president of the Dallas Bar Association, and president of the State Bar of Texas. She has also served the American Bar Association in many positions including Chair of the Board of Editors of the American Bar Journal and the Texas State Delegate. She is currently a commissioner of the Texas Access to Justice Commission and Chair of its Legislative Committee, a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Governmental Affairs, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Center for American and International Law.
