Founder and Chair, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, St. Louis, Missouri. Philanthropist, art historian, and collector of modern art. Pulitzer served as assistant curator of Drawings at the Fogg Art Museum from 1957 to 1964 and as curator at the St. Louis Art Museum from 1964 to 1973. In 2001, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts opened in a signature building designed by the Pritzker Prize winning architect, Tadao Ando. Commissioned for the building are a wall sculpture by Ellsworth Kelly and a torqued spiral sculpture by Richard Serra. The building is sited in the Grand Center area of St. Louis, continuing the redevelopment initiative Pulitzer and her late husband, Joseph Pulitzer, Jr., materially fostered--in the earlier relocation of both the Symphony Orchestra and the Contemporary Art Museum to the area. The Harvard Art Museums and the St. Louis Art Museum have also received her generous support. Pulitzer currently serves as a trustee of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Saint Louis Symphony, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and chairs the Visiting Committee of the Harvard Art Museums. Pulitzer has served as a Harvard University Overseer and member of their standing committee on humanities and arts. Pulitzer formerly served on the board of Pulitzer, Inc., a media company, and currently chairs the board of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. In 2011, President Obama honored her with the National Medal of Arts.
