Leading authority on legal ethics. Work emphasizes the personal responsibility of lawyers. More recently, turned to international criminal law, national security, and the law and morality of war. Author or editor of eleven books and some 180 articles, which were translated into Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. Testified before both Houses of Congress on the subject of torture, and is at the forefront of the debate over its use. Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College, Fordham Law School, Harvard Law School, IDC (Israel), Stanford Law School, and Yale Law School. Distinguished Chair in Ethics, US Naval Çï¿ûÊÓƵ 2013-15. Guggenheim Fellow, Woodrow Wilson Fellow, Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies (Jerusalem). Delivered lectures in 15 countries.
