Professor Daniel J. Kevles is the Stanley Woodward Professor Emeritus of History at Yale University and former J.O. and Juliette Koepfli Professor of the Humanities, Emeritus at California Institute of Technology. Research and writing focus on the development of science and its relations to society past and present, mainly in the United States. He has given special attention to the history of physics and genetics since the turn of the 20th century, to the politics of science, national defense, eugenics, biotechnology, intellectual property, and scientific fraud. He has co-authored a college history of the United States that incorporates science and technology organically into the overall story. His work has appeared in both scholarly and popular publications, including The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, and the New York Times. His awards include the Sarton Medal, Watson Davis Prize, Page One Award, and National Historical Society Prize. He is also a member of American Historical Association, Historical Science Society, American Philosophical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Society of American Historians.
