Carol D. Lee
Carol D. Lee is the Edwina S. Tarry Professor of Education and Social Policy and Professor of African-American Studies, Northwestern University. She is former President of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), National Conference on Research in Language and Literacy (NCRLL); member of the National Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Education, fellow of AERA and NCRLL; AERA representative to the World Educational Research Association. Her research bridges theory and practice, developing the Cultural Modeling Framework to scaffold students’ everyday knowledge to support disciplinary literacies. Her research bridges the learning sciences, human development, and ecological perspectives centered on the centrality of culture to what and how people learn. She is a founder of four African centered schools and a community organization that together span as of 2016 over four decades. She has served as a public school teacher, a community college professor, an administrator of a community based school, and finally as a university professor.
