Bryna Kra works in ergodic theory, particularly on problems motivated by combinatorics and number theory. Her work with Bernard Host on multiple ergodic averages changed the field, uncovering the fundamental role of nilpotent groups and their homogeneous spaces in analyzing configurations in large sets of integers. Her other significant accomplishments include development of the structure theory of topological dynamical systems, work on low complexity systems, and work in symbolic dynamics in higher dimensions.  Kra has served as a speaker worldwide both for technical and general audiences and is active in service roles in numerous professional organizations.
