Truman School of Public Affairs at University of Missouri

Brian Kisida is an Assistant Professor in the Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri. He has over a decade of experience in rigorous program evaluation and policy analysis and has co-authored multiple experimental evaluation reports through the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education. The dominant theme of his research focuses on identifying effective educational options and experiences for at-risk students that can close the achievement gap, the experience gap, and the attainment gap. His research has examined art and music education, the educational benefits of school partnerships with cultural institutions, teacher diversity, urban charter schools, and school integration. He prioritizes policy outcomes broader than student achievement on standardized tests, such as cultural and social capital, student engagement, civic outcomes, and long-term educational attainment. His research has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Spencer Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundation. His work has been cited in congressional testimony before the U.S. House and Senate, and it has appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and CNN.
