Bernard C. Perley

Bernard C. Perley is Director of the Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies and Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. An Indigenous anthropologist and scholar with expertise in linguistic anthropology, visual anthropology, and First Nations/Native American and Indigenous studies, he is the author of Defying Maliseet Language Death: Emergent Vitalities of Language, Culture, and Identity in Eastern Canada (2011) and creator of the cartoon series Having Reservations, which explores humor as a means of healing historical trauma.
