Sze, a poet, translator, and editor, has published nine books of original work, including Compass Rose (Copper Canyon, 2014), which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. "His work is distinguished by the presences of the natural world, wide consciousness, and time, [which] combine in exquisitely shaped and weighted lines and stanzas to create a poetry of deep attunement and lyrical precision. Sze's ongoing generous exchange with Asian poets … enriches the canon of world poetry immeasurably " (Shihab Nye). Sze taught at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe (1984-2006), where he is Professor Emeritus.
