Alexandra Hrycak

Reed College

Alexandra Hrycak is a professor of Sociology at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where she teaches courses on social movements, feminisms, the collapse of communism and the sociology of culture. Professor Hrycak has conducted extensive research on activism and democratization in Ukraine. In 2013, as a Shklar Fellow at Harvard University’s Ukrainian Research Institute, she carried out research in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv on women’s NGOs, including feminist consciousness raising groups, crisis centers, and shelters for victims of domestic violence. She has published analyses of activism, NGOs, elections and policy in edited volumes and a range of journals.
