CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The American Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Arts and Sciences has presented the prestigious Scholar-Patriot award to Louis W. Cabot for his distinguished service to the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ and to the nation. The recognition is granted for the extraordinary contributions of individuals who share the founding fathers' vision of service. Cabot is the third individual to receive the 226-year-old Çï¿ûÊÓƵ's Scholar-Patriot award.
The Çï¿ûÊÓƵ recognized Cabot for a lifetime of achievement as a leader of business and not-for-profit organizations. He served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Cabot Corporation; chaired the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston; and has served as a member of the board of major public companies. He also has chaired or served on the boards of dozens of cultural, educational, health, environmental, and public policy organizations ranging from Harvard University, the MIT Corporation, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Island Institute, and the Boston Museum of Science, to the Brookings Institution, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the United States Chamber of Commerce.
Cabot was elected a Fellow of the American Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Arts and Sciences in 1958. He currently serves as its vice president and founding chair of the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ Trust.
Çï¿ûÊÓƵ President Patricia Meyer Spacks, Chief Executive Officer Leslie Berlowitz, and former Secretary Emilio Bizzi presented the award at the 225th annual meeting of the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ.
