A Conversation with Freeman Hrabowski III: Reflections on Higher Education Leadership
The American Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Arts and Sciences invited members and affiliates to a conversation with educational leader Freeman A. Hrabowski III, President Emeritus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Dr. Hrabowski reflected on his decades at the helm of one of the nation’s most innovative universities and offered observations about the trajectory of higher education in the United States.
Dr. Hrabowski’s storied career as educator, administrator, and advocate for underrepresented students has led to recognition including Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World and the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Çï¿ûÊÓƵ Leadership Award. In 2012, Hrabowski served as the chair of President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans. He was elected to the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ in 2001.
